Built in 1858, the BAC is now recognized as one of the finest historic theatre restorations in Canada. Within steps of the River it presents dramas, comedies, symphony, rock and folk offerings.

Located in the heart of historic downtown Brockville, the Brockville Arts Centre is recognized as one of the finest medium size historic theatres in Canada. It also has one of the region’s top art galleries, is fully accessible and provides phonic in-ear devices for those with hearing disabilities.  The theatre is air conditioned, has ample free parking and the lobby bar is licensed (LLBO). In 2009, the Brockville Arts Centre underwent a two-million dollar restoration and re-decoration project including the installation of 700 high-quality seats.

History

The Brockville Arts Centre was built in 1858 to serve as a town hall, market place and fire engine house. (Two of the original date stones still exist placed on the outside wall). In 1880 it became an opera house and by 1939 a movie theatre. It has seen 2 World Wars, the Great Depression and survived a fire. Today, it is a state of the art building outfit for the future.
